5-Benzyluracil and its derivatives

5-(Hydroxybenzyl)uracils are obtained by condensation of 5-hydroxymethyluracil (I) with phenols in the presence of CF₃COOH [1]. However, the activity of CF₃COOH is insufficient for aromatic compounds that do not contain electron-donor substituents. Thus, according to PMR data, the reaction between equivalent amounts of I and C₆H₆ in CF₃COOH is complete only after 3 days. However, benzene derivatives containing electron-acceptor substituents are practically unreactive. Anhydrous HP, in which even benzotrifluoride reacts, is a considerably more efficient agent.     

Lipids of rice bran

The class and fatty-acid compositions of the total lipids and phospholipids and the types of triacylglycerols of rice bran oil have been studied. It has been shown that the main lipid class consists of the triacylglycerols; in them the 160, 181, and 182 acids predominate. The main phospholipids are the PCs, PIs, and PEs. Evolution of localization in frequency for modulated light pulses in a recirculating fiber loop

We present an experimental demonstration of the evolution of localization in frequency of light pulses that are repeatedly kicked by phase modulation and then propagated along equally spaced lengths of fiber with weak dispersion. The experiment was performed with a long fiber recirculating loop that allows us to follow the pulse's spectral changes after each cycle.
